Floods: Dredge Weija Dam- MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive of Weija Gbawe, Partick Kwesi Kumor, is calling for the dredging of the Weija Dam as a measure to reduce the impact of flooding within the catchment area of the dam.

He noted that the floods have become worse this year as a result of silt and debris in the dam, which prevents the dam from retaining huge volumes of water.

Speaking on GBC’s Uniiq Breakfast Drive, Mr. Kumor indicated the Assembly’s resolve to remove the structures on waterways.

”For sixty years, you should have debris and silt in there, which will reduce the depth of the dam. Now, we should have probably about forty feet and that should tell you that the water that the dam can hold has reduced, therefore the little push of water into it will get it into a level where Ghana Water will be forced to spill, which will bring more volume into the community, so if the dredging is done some improvement will be made,” she noted.
