Australian newspapers have blacked out their front pages, as part of a nationwide campaign for media freedom.
They say the government’s strict security legislation prevents them from keeping the public, properly informed.
The action was triggered by raids on a broadcaster after the publication of stories, based on leaked classified information.
The unprecedented front page protest is meant to put pressure on the Australian government, to exempt reporters from laws restricting access to sensitive information.
In June, the police raided the headquarters of the Australian Broadcastiong Corporation and the home of a newspaper editor, on suspicion of receiving national secrets.
The media insisted that basic freedoms were being ignored. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said he supports a free press, but warned that journalists are not above the law.
