US has confirmed the first case of the new coronavirus on its territory. The Centers for Disease Control said the virus, which originated in China, has been diagnosed in a US resident who arrived in Seattle from China.
The virus, which spread from the Chinese city of Wuhan, has infected almost 300 people, leaving six dead.
Reports say the patient returned from Wuhan to the US on January 15, and sought medical care.
Based on the patient’s travel history and symptoms, healthcare professionals suspected the new coronavirus and conducted laboratory tests which confirmed the presence of the virus.
