At least 27 people heading for the UK have drowned in the English Channel near Calais after their boat sank. The International Organization for Migration said it is the biggest single loss of life in the Channel since it began collecting data in 2014.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he is “appalled” by what happened.

”The UK will leave “no stone unturned” to stop human trafficking gangs”, he noted.

France’s Interior Minister, Gerald Darmanin said five women and a girl are among the dead.

”Two people were rescued and one is missing”, he noted.
