US President Donald Trump and Iranian officials traded new warnings on Wednesday following a series of military strikes between the two countries.

Trump said Iran had delayed negotiations for too long and would now “pay the price,” claiming Iran’s military had been severely weakened.

His comments came after Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi vowed that Tehran would respond to any attack or threat.

The tensions escalated after the US launched strikes on Iranian military sites, saying the action was retaliation for the downing of a US Army helicopter in the Gulf. Iran responded by targeting US bases in the region with missiles and drones.

US officials said most of the Iranian projectiles were intercepted and no casualties were reported. Iran described the American strikes as aggressive and accused Washington of undermining diplomatic efforts.

Despite the latest exchange, both countries continue to hold talks aimed at finding a long-term solution to the conflict, which began earlier this year and has repeatedly threatened regional stability.
