The Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, AFCFTA, Wamkele Mene says Africa has the capacity to be globally competitive if the continent continues to work towards leveraging its huge human resource capacity and building a strong integrated market.

Addressing participants at the ongoing 53rd World Trade Centers Association’s General Assembly meeting in Accra, Mr Mene noted that the Continent is rising and will soon be “a force to reckon with on the back of the steps being taken to make Africa self-sufficient”.

He noted that AfCFTA is in talks with Zimbabwe and other African countries on how to “minimize post-harvest losses to make the continent a food hub”.

Mr. Mene said Africa exhibited strong resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic and learnt to be self-sufficient by producing their own personal protective equipment such as sanitizers and nose mask.

This, he indicated, attests to the fact that “Africa is poised to make an impact”.
