NEWS COMMENTARY ON NEED FOR GHANAIANS TO WORK TOGETHER AND WHY MOVING THE INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION IS GREAT
In the light of the significance of national independence days in the lives of countries the world over, there is the need for all Ghanaians to focus on this year’s independence anniversary celebration that has been shifted to Kumasi. Once again, the country is celebrating its independence anniversary to inform Ghanaians about the need to continuously work hard towards the socio-economic development of the country. Socio-economic development comes in various forms such as the construction of health facilities, construction of schools, building of roads and water systems, as well as seeing to the promotion of facilities aimed at seeing to the general welfare of people in the country. In addition, efforts are also made towards rapid economic development to enhance the economic welfare and growth as well as development of everyone in the country. It is these developments that help in consolidating economic growth and rapid development of people in the country. Without economic growth, the welfare of the people cannot be guaranteed and the result will be that the entire country will be thrown into disarray instead of bringing it together in a consolidated form to achieve national purpose of growth and development.
For the second time, Ghana’s independence anniversary has been celebrated outside the national capital, Accra. The first independence anniversary outside Accra was celebrated in Tamale last year to draw importance to the peace and tranquillity that characterized the Dagbon Kingdom following the decision of the Ya-Na and his elders to ensure that there is total peace in the Dagbon Kingdom. Moving the celebration of the independence anniversary to Kumasi marks another significant occasion in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region. To begin with, Kumasi serves as a business centre that connects various parts of the country from north to south and from east to west. Secondly, it is likely to ensure great glory not only to residents of Kumasi but to bring about pomp and pageantry to the Asante Kingdom as a whole. As we move the celebration of the independence anniversary to various parts of the country, it will help to promote unity of purpose in all parts of the country. This will bring about a special focus on the need to come together as a people in unity having travelled for more than six decades to celebrate our independence anniversary. As we celebrate the Day, let each and everyone especially the youthful population think about what they can do for the country and how they can move it forward within the shortest possible time.
Today, the country has come under the dynamic and transformational leadership of President Akufo-Addo. Under his leadership so many developmental projects are ongoing. Apart from Planting for Food and Jobs, the cocoa industry is also being critically examined and all these are ultimately meant to ensure that at the end of it all, the economy is given the desired booster it needs so that socio-economic development will move on as rapidly as possible. This explains why the people of this country must throw their weight behind the government and support it to ensure that the planned national agenda is achieved for our common good. The country’s agenda for development cannot be achieved overnight but through the concerted effort of everyone in the country. This is the reason why all Ghanaians in all parts of the country must put on their patriotic spirit and rekindle their desire to help in moving the country forward for our common good. It is this positive spirit that will move us forward as a nation. All Ghanaians must do what they can to pursue the common agenda of ensuring that as a nation, we’re able to overcome our challenges and grace our national occasion with hope, the desired achievement and the pursuit of our common good.
