Kojo-Hilton paints Kamala Harris portrait with coffee; says his motivation began a decade and a half ago

In an  exclusive interview with gbcghanaonline.com  he said, ” l only use coffee to paint when the subject means so much to me. I discovered the use of coffee for painting 15 years ago”.

“With constant practice, I fell in love with the process”.

“I love the taste and smell of coffee and one of my favorite lecturers from NAFTI, Dr. Jim Fara Awindor will attest to that. Anytime I visit him at his office, he knows I am there because of the coffee”, the Artist shared.

The use of coffee (Nescafe’) for this special artwork was deliberate.

Coffee symbolizes awakening, enlightenment, wisdom, understanding, and accomplishments, and that best explains the attributes of H.E. Kamala Davi Harris; the U.S. Vice President.

Explaining the processes Kojo-Hilton says every brush stroke is significant.

“The brush strokes express her willingness to serve and above all, as a gift of appreciation from the Visual Art Industry in Ghana to her government, the U.S Embassy Ghana, and Her Excellency the U.S Ambassador Virginia E. Palma for their immense support for Ghanaian Visual Artists over the years of which I was a proud beneficiary”.

Hilton was one of Ghana’s Representatives at the Next Level Global Artists Residency in Washington DC and in New York last year 2022 edition.

He described the project as an “excellent well-planned and well executed”.

The Artist’s vision is to touch lives through painting. Also open doors for young visual Artists all over the world.

‘I would wish that this symbolic and monumental art piece be seen and appreciated by many”.

“Also, to serve as a reminder to Her Excellency Kamala Harris for our acknowledgment. Given this, I believe it will also open more doors of opportunities for other young talents in the Visual Arts sector”.

He continued by sharing that, “as an Art Ambassador, it is my responsibility to pave way for potential opportunities to change the narrative.

The generation of creative thinkers must not only see but also feel the light”.

Art helps you process your emotions and understand your surroundings better. It allows you to see life from a different perspective, and it makes you feel alive.

Art has always been an important part of human society since the beginning of time.

Art has been used as a tool for cultural exchange, education, and expression.

“Let’s not forget its economic gains in its diversity”, Hilton posits.

Hilton was full of gratitude for  support from his team.

” I thank my able management team for their support, my VASEP Art Club members, and to everyone for believing in my vision and mission and contributing in any way”, he stated.
