Members of the Southern Volta Association, SVA, celebrated their unique proud culture and heritage with a memorable party to commemorate the New Year in Matteson, Illinois. The event took place January 25, 2020. Members also used the occasion to reestablish bond, camaraderie and relationships. The celebration drew about 50 dedicated members, their families and friends.

The President of the group, Paul Sogbe, congratulated members of the SVA and noted that though the group is still in its infancy, it has been able to complete philanthropic programs which benefited the poor in both the USA and Ghana. He appealed to members to continue their strong support of the organisation.

The treasurer of the group, Donatus Kotogbor, reminded members of upcoming charitable activities lined up for this year. He also noted that members will be traveling to Canada to participate in the annual Hogbeza there. This is in preparation of celebrating the historic cultural landmark of Ewes migration from Notsie to the present-day Ghana in Chicago.

This year’s New Year celebration was one of a kind as members were not only entertained to the best lyrics by DJ Teddy had in his arsenal, but also experienced great cuisines, culture and many more.
