Ghanaian movie actress and producer, Yvonne Nelson, has revealed that it is about time movie producers like herself stopped complaining about how difficult the industry is and rather invested in their films to attract more international investors.

She made this statement during a sit-down with Nana Ama Gyapong, host of Ebitz on LifeStyle TV.

Movie production in Ghana is mostly in two parts, the Kumawood and Ghallywood. When both are combined, they produce a large number of movies monthly, which can only compete with Nollywood’s releases.

However, only Ghallywood produces movies that are considered world-class by many, while Kumawood movie makers make the traditional type of movies in Ghana.

For years now, politicians have always promised to invest in the creative arts industry, but nothing has been done yet.

In order for movie producers not to give up on their dreams, Yvonne Nelson, she said: “so I am producing and I’ve always said that me and my colleagues, I believe it’s about time we invested in our movies you know because every time we are complaining and keep saying that it’s not working and a whole lot.”

She continued, “I am tired of saying that also, and I feel like investors out there will not find us attractive, so we should also put in our monies and if we have good movies, people will come out and patronize.”

Yvonne Nelson’s latest movie is titled “Kotoka” which talks about two women who made some bad choices which affected themselves and their loved ones as well. It will be premiered on February 14, 2023, Valentine’s Day at Accra Mall.
