The Head Pastor of the Christ Cosmopolitan Incorporated in Kumasi, Obed Obeng, together with some church members have assaulted a GBC cameraman, Victor Vanderpuije, who went to cover a fire outbreak at the church premises.

The cameraman said he was manhandled following his refusal to stop the coverage and recording of the fire incident.

He said, he has reported the case to the police who have promised to investigate the case.

The fire

Several children were rescued by local artisans in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region, as a daycare centre, a church, and shops located inside one building went up in flames.

The Christ Cosmopolitan Church building, part of which houses the daycare centre, is sited close to the popular Abinkyi Market in the Ashanti Regional capital. Local artisans had to rescue the children through a small window before fire personnel arrived at the scene.

Reports say it is not clear what caused the fire.
