Government has allocated 2.5 million cedis to initiate the implementation of response and preparedness plans towards the Coronavirus.
The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu announced this during a news conference in Accra yesterday (4th February 2020).
The allocation of the amount comes after the WHO warned that Africa stands a high risk of spreading of the disease due to its vulnerable population.
The Minister has also initiated a process to procure ten thousand pieces of personal protective equipment for the use of all frontline workers.
Calls have intensified for government to consider evacuating its nationals from Wuhan where the virus is severely hit.
But speaking to the media in Accra, Ghana’s Minister of Health Kwaku Agyemang Manu stated that for now government is not and does not intend evacuating its nationals. It is also not considering a ban on travels from Corona hit countries.
He said anything otherwise will be made known to the public.
