Gov't to support private individuals and entities to implement '1D1F'-Trade Minister

The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has been explaining how government intends to implement the One District One Factory initiative.

He indicated that government does not intend to establish companies in the districts rather, it will support private individuals and entities who have expressed interest with the needed financing and other incentives.

Mr. Kyeremanten applauded industry players who have who have sent their proposals to invest in this initiative pledging government government’s resolve to bring industries closer to the average Ghanaian.

The President of the Association of Ghana Industries, (AGI) Dr. Yaw Adu Gyamfi for his part entreated government to develop a strategic National Industrial Policy to to drive the industrialization agenda stressing that this will help resuscitate the dwindling manufacturing sector.

The Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition which is held annually by the AGI brings together local and foreign businesses to share experiences to chart a way forward to grow the industrial sector.

The sixth edition of the event focused on the theme,  International Partnership Value-Added Industrial and Local Content Development.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said government is focused on industrializing the economy hence the introduction of various policies such as the One-District-one-Factory, (1D1F).

He indicated that government wants the collaboration of the private sector to make this a reality adding that although there are challenges, recent economic indicators coupled with the ratings of S&P Global points to the fact that government is on course.

Touching on the proposed Integrated Aluminum Bauxite Industry, Vice President Bawumia said government is in talks with potential investors to kick start the implementation of the project.

The three day exhibition will see participants discuss issues on how Ghana can improve on local content, value addition, and industry standards among other topics.
