The Chairman of the Council of PTAs, Alex Yaw Danso is calling on government to allow PTAs operate effectively to help solve the infrastructural deficit in Senior High Schools (SHSs).

He said PTAs complement government’s efforts at ensuring adequate infrastructure in schools.

Speaking on news and current affairs programme ‘Behind the News’ on Uniiq FM, Mr Danso said most infrastructure in schools were provided by the PTAs, and the Association remains ready to join hands with government in building a well resourced educational front.

Commenting on the cancellation of some BECE results for exams malpractice, Mr Danso said it is in the right direction as students are always advised to adhere to rules and regulations.

He advised parents to ensure that they check on the progress of their wards regularly. Mr Danso noted that some parents have neglected this responsibility because of the free SHS.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the National Council of PTAs, Mr Danso has debunked claims that some PTA Chairmen prevented students from writing the BECE due to their inability to pay PTA dues.

He said that decision is taken solely by some school heads.

Mr Danso said this has been the case since GES’ directive to refrain school heads from collecting PTA dues and levies as well as dismissal of students who failed to pay.
