Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, has been appointed to lead a strong government delegation to engage FIFA on the threat to ban the country from all international competitions if processes to liquidate the GFA are not halted at the courts.

Other members of the delegation are the Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, Deputy Attorney-General Godfred Dame, and Deputy Chief of Staff Abu Jinapor.

This was announced in Accra by Minister of Information Designate, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Mr. Oppong Nkrumah stated that it is the belief of government that the GFA as it is now needs to be cleaned up.
BACKGROUND
The appointment of Yaw Osafo Marfo to lead government’s delegation to engage FIFA, follows an invitation from the world football governing body to the Government of Ghana, to deliberate on the current impasse in Ghana football.
The meeting would be held on Thursday, August 16, at the headquarters of FIFA in Zurich, Switzerland.

Secretary General of FIFA, Fatma Samoura.

A letter signed by Fatma Samoura, Secretary General of FIFA, says the request for the meeting follows the decision of FIFA Bureau of the Executive Council and a subsequent telephone conversation between President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA.
FIFA, earlier in the week threatened to ban Ghana from all football related activities if a court action to liquidate the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is not halted.
The Government in a response, requested for a meeting with the world football controlling body to find a lasting solution to the impasse.
