The Chairman of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC), Dr Steve Manteaw, says the problems of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) could be solved, if it is listed on the Stock Exchange instead of outright privitisation, which nearly brought the power distributor to its knees.

Contributing to the furore surrounding the ECG/PDS concessional agreement and the fallout on GBC’S Current Affairs Programme, ‘TALKING POINT’, Dr. Steve Manteaw, said the problems of ECG are similar to Goil and Ghana Commercial Bank, but they were not privitised. Instead, they were supported to stand on their feet and are now doing well.

Head of Communications at the Ministry of Energy, Nana Kofi Damoah said though the outcome of the Power Distribution Services (PDS) deal was not desirable, that does not mean due diligence was not done.

Chief Executive Officer of African Energy Consortium, Kwame Jantuah asked government not to rush for another Concessionaire. He mentioned management issue as the problem and called for that to be addressed.

Those were views of panelists on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme Talking Point which discussed the PDS issues and the way forward.
