The Gonja Traditional Council has placed a ban on the celebration of Damba at Bole in the Savannah region.
A statement from the Yagbonwura said the security situation in Bole remains fragile and therefore due to a lingering chieftaincy dispute in the area.
Bole has been under curfew since last year, following clashes between factions affiliated to two chieftaincy gates in the area.
The Gonja Traditional Council said it cannot guarantee the safety of residents and has entreated the Savannah Regional Security Council should take the necessary steps to stop the cet of the Damba festival.
“The Yagbonwura and the Council of Elders therefore expect the law abiding people of Bole Traditional Area to comply with the decision in the interest of peace.”
The ban on the celebration of Damba festival in Bole, comes at a time, when Dagbon is using Damba to consolidate peace after nearly two decades of a chieftaincy conflict.
