Five International research and social organizations have collectively condemned the economic and environmental exploitation of African Cocoa farmers by international cocoa processing companies which end up plunging the farmers into deeper poverty while the companies gain more profit.

The organizations are Be Slavery Free, Green America, Inkota, Mighty Earth, and National Wildlife Federation.

According to them, cocoa farmers especially in Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire are not receiving any support from their governments or the processing companies in terms of cocoa production.

Most of these companies cheat farmers when buying cocoa products from them while the companies make huge profits from the raw products they buy from farmers.

Worst still, farmers are challenged in terms of proper labour and modernized equipment in producing on a large scale.

The five organizations launched their findings on a scorecard in Accra.
