In a bid to improve power reliability and reduce technical losses, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), is focusing on establishing more Bulk Supply Points (BSPs) in its operational areas.

Apart from the 35 BSPs in the country, the Nungua enclave is being considered for a Bulk Supply Point.

These came up when members of the Project Management Institute, Ghana, toured the ECG’s Bulk Supply Point at Kasoa in the Central region to acquaint themselves with its operations.

General Manager for Urban Projects, Felix Akpaglo, indicated that the project has improved the voltage profile in Kasoa, thus positively impacting the lives of more than 250,000 customers.

Bulk Supply Points (BSPs), are usually sited where the population is high and power consumption is also high. The Kasoa BSP is a critical power substation operated by the Electricity Company of Ghana. The 50 million dollar project with 435 megawatts capacity won the Project Management Excellence Awards for 2023. General Manager for Urban Projects, Felix Akpaglo, who took the PMI team around the facility, explained that extensive stakeholder engagement was undertaken, hence the success story.

The Vice President for Membership of the PMI, Ghana, Jalilu Issahaku, highlighted the criteria for the Management Excellence Awards and how Kasoa BSP emerged as the winner for 2023.

Vice President, Outreach for PMI, Ghana Chapter, Frank Attoh-Owoo, explained the rationale behind the visit and the lessons learnt.

On the back of this ECG success story, Project Management Institute, Ghana Chapter, is encouraging students and professionals alike to take advantage of the opportunities PMI presents.
