Legal action will soon be taken against individuals and organisations that fail to comply with fire safety precautions as stated in the Ghana National Fire Service Legislative Instrument (L I) 1724.
This was made known during the inauguration of the 17-Member Fire Safety Task Force (FSTF) at the Greater Accra Regional Headquarters of the Ghana National Fire Service at Korle Bu in Accra.
The 17-member Fire Safety Task Force (FSTF) is the first batch out of five batches.
The team will educate, ensure checks and balances, enforce LI 1724, which touches on fire precautions and regulations, take legal action against individuals and organisations that fail to comply with the fire safety precautions, fire-free community, a fire-free environment, as well as a fire-free Ghana.
The Head of Safety at the Regional Headquarter and the Head of the Safety Task Force, DO I Evans Osei Owusu, said the initiative will open doors for more to follow to ensure the fire-free Ghana the Ghana National Fire Service wants to achieve.
Inuagurating the Task Force, the Greater Accra Regional Commander Assist Chief Fire Officer Grade One (ACFO I), Roberta Aggrey Ghanson, said the greatest desire of the service is to ensure undesired fires in the country.
ACFO I Roberta Aggrey Ghanson charged them to exhibit professionalism at all times and collaborate with one another to ensure that their mandate as the Safety Task Force is met.
According to ACFO I Aggrey Ghanson, the team should embrace any challenges that may come their way.
“Without challenges, there is no innovation. Let us ensure that our schools, homes, and environment are all safe for use. It is the wish of management to record zero fires in the country. Avoid any negative attitude that will tanish our image and that of the Ghana National Fire Service.”
The first batch of Fire Safety Task Force was drawn from the various fire stations within the command.
The 17-member Fire Safety Task Force comes with two monitors to oversee the affairs of the team. The team will be divided into three groups, and work is expected to commence soon.
