A National Committee to develop a comprehensive framework for refocusing national earthquake preparedness and response has been inaugurated in Accra.
The Minister for the Interior Ambrose Dery, inaugurated the Ten Member Committee under the Chairmanship of Carlien Bou-Chedid of the Ghana Institute of Engineers.
She has been tasked to submit a Report by the 15th of next months.
The terms of reference of the Committee include identifying and outlining key measures that must be undertaken by relevant Agencies to empower communities to be well prepared and resilient for reduction of seismic risk.
It must also outline other responses required by stakeholders or agencies in the event of an earthquake, to include recovery.
The Committee has the Director-General of NADMO, Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, as chairman.
Mr Dery, noted that over the past year, the country particularly Accra had been hit by a series of earth tremors of magnitudes ranging between 2.6 and 3.9 with the last occurrence on 2nd March.
He said these occurrences are quite worrying because experts say such tremors may be signal warning of a major earthquake.
