Veterans in Wa appeal to government for free medical care

Ex Sergeant Jonas Dakura, a retired soldier, has petitioned the government to assist veterans by meeting their medical needs.

He made the appeal at the 77th Remembrance Day parade held at the Cenotaph in Wa.

The parade was under the command of Captain Albert Delali Tanson of the 10 Mechanised Battalion.

Ex Sergeant Jonas Dukura pointed out that retired military personnel are suffering in view of the economic difficulties. He stated that it seems old soldiers have been forgotten in terms of the Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) that was given to public sector workers.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, who reviewed the parade, laid a wreath on behalf of the government and people.

The commanding officer of the 10 Mechanized Battalion, Lt Col. Francis Kwasi Gyimah, laid a wreath on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces, while the Regional VAG Chairman, Ex WO 1 Dozie Kwesi Gyilley, laid a wreath for the veterans.

Another wreath was laid by the widows representative of VAG for VAG widows, while the final one was laid by a representative of Wa Naa on behalf of the Chiefs and people of Upper West.

Ex WO1 Dozie Kwesi Gyilley, who read the biyon verse, stressed the need for retired soldiers from the Upper West to come back to their home region to help in its development.
