The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, says his party is starting a campaign dubbed “Ghana Project,” which seeks to create a common platform for all political parties to engage themselves to see how critical national institutions can be supported holistically to perform their role towards achieving the national transformational agenda.
The NDC believes that the era where political parties battle for control of critical state institutions should be a thing of the past.
What the country needs at the moment is to support and empower critical state institutions like the GBC to perform its role in rapid national development.
According to him, time has proven that political party actors, especially the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and NDC, which have had the opportunity to govern for the past 31 years alone, cannot achieve the desired developmental goals Ghana is driving at.
He explained further that if the country’s developmental drive is simply about NPP or NDC, the country will be far more developed than it is now. But that hasn’t been possible because there are critical state institutions which have a huge role to play in the country’s developmental process.
“Our responsibility as political parties actors is to ensure that these critical state institutions are given the necessary resources and tools to perform its mandate to help accelerate the general developmental agenda of the country instead of weaponizing themto our advantage,” Mr Kwetey reiterated.
He is therefore calling on public to pay their TV licence fees to enable GBC to play its role as a public broadcaster for the growth and development of the country.
The NDC National Scribe made this assertion during an engagement with the management members of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) at the Broadcasting House at Kanda i Accra.
