A brief but violent rainstorm ripped through Jana in the Nanton District of the Northern Region on Tuesday night, causing widespread destruction despite lasting less than 15 minutes, according to residents.

The strong winds tore roofs off schools, mosques and several houses, leaving many structures uninhabitable. Several electricity poles were also brought down, plunging the community into darkness as power lines were severed.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have since visited the area to assess the extent of the damage. The assessment team toured affected sites, including damaged public buildings and residential homes, to evaluate the level of support required.

Despite the shock of the sudden storm, residents have begun the process of rebuilding. Community members were seen on Wednesday morning clearing debris, salvaging materials and making temporary repairs to their damaged properties.

No casualties have been reported.

NADMO is expected to release an official report on the incident and outline possible interventions for affected residents. Power restoration efforts are also pending as repair crews await safety clearance to work on fallen poles.
