The Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem has disclosed that the State generated almost nineteen million cedis since Government implemented the Expenditure Rationalization Measures which included 20 percent downward adjustment in the quarterly expenditure ceilings of the approved budget and 30 percent deductions in salaries of the President, Vice President and Government Appointees.

He made the disclosure at the Annual Conference of the Controller and Accountant-General Department, CAGD, at Kwahu Nkwatia in the Eastern Region.

Speaking at the two-day conference, Mr. Kwaning-Bosompem revealed that through effective collaboration with the Office of the Head of Civil Service, promotion interviews especially for those who have been on the same grade for about a decade or more started in 2020 and are still on-going to correct the anomaly.

He further added that more than one thousand seven hundred and eighty-two (1,782) officers have been promoted across all grades.

The Chief of Staff, Frema Akosua Osei Opare stated that it is imperative for Accountants and other professionals to work assiduously to complement government’s effort toward getting the economy back on track.

She added that the Public Sector Accountants have a significant role to play in economic sustainability by ensuring that reports on the financial status of the country are accurate, uniform and transparent.

The Director of the Internal Audit at the Ministry of Finance, Hayford Amoh who represented the Finance Minister said, the budget hinges on strict fiscal consolidation while achieving social inclusion.

This, he said, requires public Accountants to have maximum professionalism, ethical values and competence to support the target outlined in the budget.

The Annual Conference brought together a total of five hundred delegates comprising Heads of Accounts at the Ministries, Department and Agencies, Regional Directors of CAGD and Regional Coordinating Councils across the country.
