The Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate, (MTTD), of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of police, (COP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has advised recruit constables to be humble, respectful, duty conscious, civil to the public, protect and avoid corrupt practices including drugs and cyber related crimes that will tarnish the image of the service.

He gave the advice at the passing out ceremony of police recruits in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.

One hundred and eighty six (186) police recruits passed out after going through their six month intensive training.

They were taken through police ethics and liberal subject, drill, physical training and weapon handling.

The Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate, (MTTD), of the Ghana Police Service, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, appealed to the recruit constables to remain neutral, impartial, and avoid all form of negative practices in order to sustain the peace Ghana is enjoying.

He cautioned them against the indiscriminate and unjustifiable use of firearms, and show respect for human right.

COP Yohuno said the police administration has adopted a strategic direction aimed at transforming and the realization of the vision of the sector to be a world class police service capable of delivering planned, democratic and protective services up to international best standard practices which is the democratic policing.

He cautioned the recruits of crime such as terrorism, kidnapping and vigilantism which were least known in Ghana but are now on the increase, adding that much will be expected of them.

He advised them not to eschew professionalism in the performance of duties and that they are on 18 months’ probation and will be posted to various regions in the discharge of their mandated duties, as they will be mentored, coached and closely monitored by senior officers who will supervise and summit monthly report on them.

COP Yohuno commended the Eastern Regional Police Command and the Security Council for the maintenance of peace in the region.

Six (6) recruit constables were awarded for their sterling performance during the training.; They are General Recruit, (G/R) Dominic Agyei as the overall best recruit and best in academics, G/R Mark Ofori best conduct, G/R Michael Afrifa best in drill, G/R Rundolf Agyekum, best marksman, G/R Ismaila Bansi Kasum best in physical training and G/R Karim Mohammed- Mubarik best in Child Friendly Policing.

The Drill Instructor PW/SGT, Abiba Musah explained that the 186 recruits of the first batch of the 2019, six month training all passed out successfully without any drop out. She said there were few stress on the part of the recruits due to their various backgrounds but with commitment things were normalized after the training.
