The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has given the strongest indication of supporting youth who go into agriculture. According to the Deputy Sector Minister, Yaw Frimpong Addo, the Ministry is adopting tech-friendly initiatives to educate and provide resources to the youth.

This will help them approach agriculture as a business rather than a hobby. He was speaking at the launch of Agricgate.farm, a website meant to offer free training and resources on farming to enable individuals to start agribusiness.

According to the Deputy Agric Minister, Yaw Frimpong Addo, previously, prospective farmers were compelled to invest substantial sums in traveling to remote areas for face-to-face training or hiring expensive specialists. He said the government is committed to changing this trend by investing in innovations like the Agricgate platform, considering the immense potential to boost the planting for food and jobs initiative.

The platform will link farmers with markets and provide entrepreneurship opportunities beyond farming so that individuals can start small backyard farms and be self-sufficient. It will also offer a wealth of instructional videos demonstrating diverse farming techniques, significantly enhancing individuals’ knowledge in farming.

The Chief Executive of Agricgate Edutech, Felix Appiah, asked the government to continue investing in such innovations to ensure more youth get involved in agriculture.

‘Agricgate.Farm is poised to become the go-to destination for all things agriculture-related”, he stated, adding that the platform would target individuals, corporate entities involved in agriculture, and government agencies in West African countries, among others.

The event focused on innovating, educating, and empowering the youth.
