As the New Year approached, many people in Accra were excited about what 2024 might bring.

Some were hopeful for positive changes and new opportunities, although some claim 2023 wasn’t of a good year. Families gathered, sharing dreams and setting goals for the coming year.

In various communities like Lapaz, individuals expressed their expectations for 2024. Some wished for better health, while others hoped for success in their studies or jobs. Single people also wished to be engaged this year 2024. Many were eager to strengthen family bonds and spend more quality time together.

In interviews, community members shared their simple aspirations. Gifty Addai, a mother of two wished for happiness in her family and academic success for her children.

Godfred, who is a twin, as an entrepreneur aimed to develop new skills and sell his product, and have more customers.

Rose, also a resident, stated that, she wished for more money and good health because without good health you cannot do anything. “ I pray for all my family members to be alive to see 2025 because what makes people have is having all your family members alive to celebrate New Year together.”

Interviewing Pastor Charisma of The City Of The Living God Ministry, he said,” This year has been a good year because we are still alive and as we are alive there’s still hope and God has a purpose for you. We should all wish for the best and remove all negativity from our mouth because what we say is what that will manifest. I pray for everyone this year to have a good year.”

Talking to Grace, a young girl in her 20’s who attends a Pentecost, she explained that, “am very young so am just praying for long life and prosperity for me and my family. I completed Senior High School this year and am very grateful.”

The anticipation of a fresh start was obvious. People embraced the idea of leaving behind the challenges of the previous year and welcoming the possibilities of the new one. As the clock ticked toward midnight on December 31st, smiles and positive vibes filled the air.

After midnight residents of Lapaz community were all happy and the exchange of “Happy New Year” echoed through the neighborhoods. The atmosphere was one of collective and nicest things in a while with everyone looking forward to a year filled with joy, growth, and positive changes.

As the celebrations continued into the night, the people of Accra held onto their expectations for a better and brighter 2024, eager to embark on the journey of the new year together.
