The High Court in Accra has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the Director General of the CID and the Director General of Legal Prosecution Unit of the Ghana Police Service for failing to appear in Court over a contempt application against them.

The two Police officials are respondents to an application filed by the company Sureword Global Outreach seeking orders for the release of an impounded vehicle to it.

Lawyer for the company, Abraham Arthur, argued that the respondents should be committed for contempt for failing to honour the Court’s order to appear before it although the said vehicle has been released to the company.

The Judge, Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, held that the respondents blatantly refused to appear before the Court even after extending enough courtesy to them.

The Court said there is evidence to show that the two have been served with notice to appear before it to answer for the contempt application against them.

Justice Osei Marfo had previously threatened to issue a bench warrant for the arrest of the two Directors of the Ghana Police Service if they failed to honour its order to appear before the Court on April 15, 2024.
