Ashantis receive commendation for preserving Ghana’s cultural image

The Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies Accra, UPSA Drolor Bosso Adamtey has commended efforts by the Akans particularly Ashantis for preserving and promoting Ghana’s rich history over the years.

Speaking at the Prof. James Anquandah Lecture and Foundation Launch  in Accra, Drolor Bosso Adamtey said Akans have been consistent in promoting their culture to the world, which has contributed to enhancing Ghana’s image as a country with a rich cultural heritage.

With over 50 publications to his name, Professor James Kwasi Anquandah rose from the rank of a lecturer at the University of Ghana to become the first Ghanaian to head the Department of Archaeology.

The institution of the lecture series and  launch of the foundation by the university is to recognise the contributions of Prof. James Anquandah to the improvement of archeological study in the country over the years. Suapolor of the Se State  and Kordiabe Mantse,  Drolor Bosso Adamtey was the main speaker was happy at the contribution of the Akan culture to Ghana’s image.

Drolor Adamtey said cultural practices and traditions are not evil as the believe of some people is.

He made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to ensure that the local dialect is not overshadowed by Foreign languages because it is critical to Ghana’s development.
