The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Mahamudu Bawumia, has declared that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully recruited 2.1 million individuals for employment over the past seven years, spanning both the private and public sectors.

Addressing the audience as the special guest at the Business and Employment Assistance Programme (B.E.A.P), launched by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in collaboration with the government on December 11, 2023, at the Eusbelt Hotel in Sunyani, he revealed that no government in the fourth republic has achieved such a significant recruitment milestone.

“Ghana, with a population of 31 million, sees 70% of its populace as youth, making it our priority to provide jobs as they represent the future of our nation,” he asserted.

“We have recruited a total of 2.1 million individuals, with 975,000 joining the private sector and 1.2 million entering the public sector.”

Bawumia highlighted the engagement of 21,000 youths in the Community Police Assistance and Community Health Workers modules, along with 2,000 youths participating in the Youth in ICT module in collaboration with Ghana Digital Centers.

While emphasizing the continued focus on employment, Bawumia acknowledged the challenges and emphasized the substantial progress made in recruiting 2.1 million people.

The initiative’s primary goal is to offer salary support for new hires in small and medium-scale enterprises. The B.E.A.P aims to have the YEA cover allowances for newly recruited employees in various small-scale businesses, including barber shops, hotels, private schools, restaurants, pharmacies, and mobile phone shops.
