116 Tailors pass out in Bolgatanga after three years of tutelage

By Peter Agengre

One Hundred and Sixteen (116) apprentices have successfully graduated after a three-year training programme in entrepreneurship skills at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

The Ghana National Tailors and Dress Makers Association (GNTDA), provided practical training and motivated members to work proactively and exceed consumer demands and expectations in the region.

The training is aimed at providing a central organization for tailors and seamstresses for the Bolgatanga Central zone 1 by harnessing essential skills and resources for an effective impact, evolving a national fashion identity and making Ghanaians appreciate the culture manifested in their clothing. It was a great day for family and friends to show the apprentices some love as they danced their hearts out.

Speaking to GBC News, the Regional Treasurer of GNTDA, Christiana Anaaro noted that “the training was expected to reduce the unemployment rate in the country and make the graduates independent”.

The Regional Vice-Chairman of GNTDA, David Akanda explained that tailors and seamstresses play a critical role in human development as almost everyone depends on them for their clothing.

He asked government to institute some sort of recognition for the Tailors, giving their essential role they played in society.

Some of the apprentices, after the graduation ceremony, expressed gratitude to the Management for the initiative saying the training had made them acquire handy work.

GNTDA was formed and registered in Ghana in October 1979 but was registered in the Upper East Region in 1992. It has over 2,000 members from all the five Sub Districts that make up the Bolgatanga central zone.
