A seven-year-old pupil of the Frihans Preparatory School at Asokore near Koforidua in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region got drowned yesterday as a result of the torrential rain that hit the town in the afternoon.

The school closed while the rain was still falling and the boy together with his two siblings and other children boarded the school bus.

According to information gathered by GBC’s correspondent, the three siblings were alighted at their usual place while it was still raining.

The siblings, two boys and a girl had to cross a small gutter in front of their house which had overflown its banks as a result of the heavy rainfall. Unfortunately, the deceased who was being held by the hand by his elder sibling slipped and fell into the gutter and was swept away by the water.

Attempts by his elder brother to pick him from the gutter proved futile.

The elder brother and his junior sister ran home to inform their mother of the unfortunate development and the mother mobilised people to help her search for the boy.

The deceased was found unconscious after two hours and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
