Businessman accused of killing wife denied bail again

The Madina District court has for the second time refused bail to the alleged murderer of Lilian Dedjoe.

The Magistrate, Maame Efua Todimah in declining the bail application by lawyer for the accused person Captain Nkrabea Effah- Dateh, said even though per the case of Martin Kpebu No.2 and Attorney General, all cases are bailable, she cannot grant the bail under this circumstance.

She asked the lawyer of the accused person why he filed an application for bail at the High court which is pending and still asking for bail at the District court.

Captain Nkrabea Effah-Dateh in response said once the District Court is a court of law, it has the power to grant bail.

This was after the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector, Sophia Adamuwaa had also objected to the bail application by lawyer Nkrabea Effah-Dateh.

He told the media after court proceedings that he disagrees with the court in declining the bail application for his client and expressed displeasure on how social media is trying the case.

Father of the deceased, Seth Charles Kanglah  Blasu, was pleased with how the case has begun and is hopeful justice will be served.

President of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Afua Brown Eyeson together with some gender activists were at the Madina District court to solidarize with the deceased and all women who are victims to such treatments.

She told the media the fight is not for only Lilian, but for all women.

Earlier, family members, friends and sympathizers of the late Lilian Dedjoe thronged the Madina District court to campaign for Justice for the deceased.

According to GBC’s Yvonne Asare-Offei, they were clad in red T shirts with the inscription, Justice for Lilian, Stop domestic violence now!

The case has been adjourned to the 12th of next month.
