The Young Adults Fellowship, YAF of the Calvary Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Koforidua Nsukwao Estates in the Eastern Region has donated food items, second-hand clothing and assorted drinks to the Akwadum Christian Village Orphanage Home in the New Juaben North Municipality. The items include four bags of second-hand clothing, three gallons of cooking oil, 10 packs of soft drinks, 12 packs of tissue papers, three bags of 25kg of rice, 18 packs of bottled water, two cartons of chicken, and 25 bags of sachet water.

Other items include liquid soaps, disinfectant, mop bucket and brush, five crates of eggs, towels, bedsheets, tin tomatoes, GTP cloths, onions, baby wipes, canned fishes, one pack of milk, washing powder, four dozen of face towels among others. The president of Young Adults’ Fellowship, Godfred Sowatey in an interview with the GBC Sunrise FM, explained that the gesture forms part of the 2023 YAF Week Celebration project which aims to help humanity to cater for their needs.

He noted that every year they set aside a day to embark on charity projects as a means to help the less privileged in society. Mr. Sowatey reiterated that the mandate of the church is not only to preach the gospel but also to offer a helping hand to the needy just like God offered Christ to humanity. He advised the children to desist from negative activities that will end up destroying their future.

The Care Giver at the Akwadum Christian Village Orphanage Home, Janet Amankwah, receiving the items expressed her gratitude to the YAF Group of the Calvary Congregation for the kind gesture and promised the items will be put to good use. She noted that their aim is to provide a family for the orphans with support, care and Christian values.

They also ensure that every child that goes through their adoption process is placed in a good, loving and caring home to help create leaders and better people for the future. Madam Janet Amankwah appealed to individuals as well as benevolent organizations to support the home with the payment of utility bills and also give financial assistance to inmates who have ambitions of acquiring tertiary education after completion of Senior High school.

The Kyidomhene of Akwadum, Nana Kwaku Owusu who commended the YAF group for the donation advised other religious, corporate and social institutions to emulate the gesture. Nana Kwaku Owusu noted that quality education for all young people in the country will help to eradicate poverty, unemployment, and illiteracy which are hindrances to development. He advised students in the Orphanage home to take their education seriously.
