Ghana’s mission in China has assured Ghanaians in China that the maltreatment meted out to them by Chinese officials have been addressed.

According to Ghana’s ambassador to China Edward Boateng, officials of the mission have had several meetings with the Chinese authorities who have apologized for what they described as a mistake.

China has been criticised for inhumane treatment of some African nationals in the southern city of Guangzhou as it takes steps to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

According to media reports, Chinese officials started evicting hundreds of African residents and businessmen from hotels and apartments and accused them of having the coronavirus.

The Africans, including Ghanaians, say they are just being targeted under the guise of a testing campaign for the COVID-19.

Some of them alleged that they have been placed under forced quarantine without being told the results of their tests and described the development as discriminatory.

But reacting to the development, Ambassador Edward Boateng said the Chinese authorities have admitted their mistake and are rectifying it.
