Thousands of Christians thronged various churches for watch night services across the Upper West Region to celebrate the successes chalked up in 2019, usher in the New Year and seek direction from God in 2020. The watch night services also gave the opportunity for Christian leaders to encourage their congregation to actively pursue peace and brotherly love as the country inches closer to the 2020 general election.

Watch night services to usher in the New Year have been a part of the Christian – tradition for several decades. Various churches have come up with ingenious way of naming these services to attract Christian worshippers. These names include; Crossover, Walk-Over, Dance-Over among others.

At the time the GBC News team got the World Redemption Ministries in Wa, the church auditorium was full to capacity although the service had just begun. The Head Pastor, Reverend Benjamin Mohammed Braimah, said the Bible mandates Christians to actively pursue peace adding that the upcoming election should be free of violence. He also tasked the youth not to take the road traffic laws into their own hands when they escort politicians during the electioneering period.

At the Church of Pentecost, Kabanye Central Assembly, the situation was no different. Worshippers danced, prayed and sang praises as they ushered in the New Year. The District Pastor, Pastor Robert Ebow Mensah said unlike previous years when Christians lived their lives without Christ, 2020 should be different. He encouraged Christians to make Christ and his word the central part of every decision they make.
