Contribute positively to national Goals- Rotary International President

The visiting President of Rotary International, Shekhar Mehta has impressed upon Rotarians to endeavor to play a positive role in the nation’s building process. Mr. Mehta who is on a working visit from India was speaking on the GTV Breakfast Show. He said Rotary is about serving communities and changing lives, so it is important for Rotarians to reflect such tenets in their day to day lives.

“Rotary unites more than a million people, together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.’’

Mr. Shekhar Mehta said he would be visiting schools in Ghana, in the spirit of Rotary’s focus on empowering girls and ending poverty in communities.

The visiting Rotary International President spoke about other programs they are involved in. These include promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving others and children, supporting education, growing local communities and protecting the environment.

He said under its TEACH initiative, Rotary is on the path to providing more of what he called “Happy Schools, where dilapidated buildings are being replaced with nicer facilities to ensure that the children remain in school’’.

Mr. Mehta disclosed that he would be touring Rotary initiatives nationwide. He extended greetings from the India Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Ghana and looked forward to an enjoyable stay in Ghana.
