COVID-19: Council on Foreign Relations-Ghana lecture by Wole Soyinka postponed

The Council on Foreign Relations- Ghana has postponed its 5th Distinguished Guest Lecture which was scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2020 with distinguished African writer and Nobel Prize winner, Professor Wole Soyinka.

The postponement, according to the Council in a release on Monday, March 16, follows a government directive banning all public gatherings in the wake of the six confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ghana.

“The lecture with Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka as Guest Speaker has been postponed.”

President Akufo-Addo in a televised address Sunday, March 15 evening ordered the shutdown of all schools and universities indefinably as government moves to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

“All public gatherings including conferences, workshops, funerals, festivals, political rallies, sporting events and religious programmes such as services in churches and mosques have also been suspended for four weeks.”

The Council said it will announce a new date for the lecture in due course.

“A new date for the lecture by Professor Wole Soyinka on the topic: ‘Afro-Pessimism Against Horizons of Aburi Optimism’ will be announced in due course.”
