Afrikids Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation which aims at building the capacity of local people especially children in Ghana, has donated medical essentials and foodstuffs to 13 districts in four of its operational regions at a cost of ¢1 million. The initiative is in line with the organisation’s response to the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic among children and mothers within its catchment area.
At a short ceremony at Pusu-Namongo to hand over medical essentials and foodstuffs to beneficiaries, the leadership of Afrikids Ghana said although the Coronavirus pandemic has hit all sectors in the world, they consider it needful to support the less privileged in society.
Afrikids as an NGO adapted to the situation by repositioning itself to keep serving its communities since projects could no longer function in the usual way. Measures were therefore put in place to support government’s effort in the fight against the COVID –19 pandemic.
The donated items include five hundred and seventy veronica buckets, five thousand, six hundred and fifty-six hand sanitizers, fifteen thousand six hundred and fifty-eight face masks, two thousand bags of rice, and two thousand gallons of cooking oil and other medical essentials.
Country Director of Afrikids Ghana, Nicholas Kumah, hoped the support will help bring a positive impact to the beneficiary communities.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Madam Tangoba Abayage, who received the items on behalf of the beneficiary districts, commended the organisation and encouraged the public to take the COVID -19 safety protocols seriously to reduce its spread.
The Beneficiary districts include Bongo, Builsa North, Builsa South, Talensi, Kassena-Nankana West , Bolgatanga Municipal in the Upper East Region and Sissala East in the Upper West Region.
