COVID-19: Somè Traditional Area urges families to bury their dead

The Somè Traditional Area in The Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region has urged bereaved families to bury their dead relations in order to save cost at this crucial time.

Torgbiga Adamah (III), The Makorsor of Somè in a press release said “all chiefs and Dumegawo in conjunction with the bereaved families should ensure that the dead are buried as soon as possible, without any recourse to keeping the body in a mortuary”.

According to the statement, all dead bodies already in the mortuary should be collected and buried.

Currently, many families have indefinitely postponed funerals due to the fact that the government has directed that not more than 25 persons must congregate for any activity.

The Somè Traditional Authority in the statement has also with immediate effect, put in the following measures to regulate the activities of the citizens of The Area during this COVID-19 pandemic period.

1. A committee of experienced people to advise or monitor and co-ordinate the measures being put in place.

2. Two market committees have also been set up to assist the Municipal Assembly to manage the two major markets Hedzranawo (Denu) and Agbozume -in this period.

4. To facilitate the contact tracing policy, all citizens should report the presence of their visitors or strangers to chiefs, dumegawo, assembly members or unit committees, for further action.

5. We advise all the citizens of Some to undergo the testing for the virus to know their status, when the process begins in the Ketu South.

6. We appeal to all our citizens to be very security conscious in these trying times.

7. We urge our citizens to undergo regular exercises at home, but avoid mass outdoor sporting or health activities such as football, volleyball and basketball matches and keep fit meetings.

The Torgbiga in his concluding statement reminded all the citizens of Somè to follow strictly the basic directives or protocols of the Government, which are meant to contain the pandemic, by washing their hands as often as possible with soap and under running water as soon as they reach home.
