Director-General of GBC lauds RTI law as giant step to Ghana’s fledgling democracy

Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC Professor Amin Alhassan has lauded the Right to Information Law, RTI describing it as a giant step towards the consolidation of Ghana’s fledgling democracy.

He said access to information is crucial to the effective functioning of democracy as it helps champion the principles of accountability and transparency. To this end, GBC he said is ready to partner with the Right to Information Commission to make its operations success and give true meaning to the Act.

Professor Amin Alhassan made these remarks when some members of the RTI Commission led by its Executive Secretary, Yaw SarpongBoateng paid a courtesy call on Management of the Corporation at Broadcasting House in Accra.

Executive Secretary to the Right to Information Commission, Yaw Sarpong Boateng entreated GBC to help intensify public education on the RTI for a better appreciation of the law. He spelt out some of the requirements under the RTI Law.

The visit enabled the two entities to exchange ideas on the workings of the law and the foreseeable challenges. Among the visiting entourage was a Retired High Court Judge Justice K. A Ofori Atta who acts as Chairman of the Right to Information Commission.
