Easter Travels: Unveiling reasons Kwahu beckons every Easter

Easter is a Christian religious festival that is celebrated to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus three days after his death by crucifixion.

As Easter approaches, the city of Accra comes alive with anticipation and excitement as people from all over Ghana gather at the various bus terminals and are ready to embark on a memorable journey to Kwahu to celebrate the Easter holidays, as it holds significant cultural and traditional value during the Easter season. 

These bus terminals are bustling with activities as travelers eagerly prepare for their Easter adventure or holidays. At the bus terminals in Circle and Kaneshie, families, friends, and loved ones are seen buying foods to eat; others are also seen hugging and talking to each other as their faces are filled with excitement and joy. 

The air is filled with laughter and chatter, and the sound of bus engines set and  ready to transport these travelers to their destination. Even though it is a season to remember the death and resurrection of Christ, it is also a time to have fun, make merry and network.

In Ghana, a lot of people travel to Kwahu in the Eastern region to witness the excitement and activities. They have fun, and connect with old friends.

According to Dennisa, a traveler, she always travels with her family and loved ones to Kwahu during the Easter season to experience some “traditional festivities like paragliding, street parties, hiking, and connecting with my roots”.

Another traveler, Nana Yaw, highlighted that he has not been to Kwahu before, but “the rate at which the place is always hyped during the Easter season makes me want to go there and see what is actually going to unfold there”.

“I want to experience the Eastern region, especially Kwahu, and know how it feels to be there during this season.” He stated

Also, Sheila emphasized that Easter is the time for families to reunite in the country, so she traveled there to reunite with families and loved ones and participate in some communal activities.

“It has been a while I visited my hometown since I came to Accra to work so this is an opportunity for me  to go there.” She said

Additionally, Mr. Eric Ofori also explained that Kwahu boasts of breathtaking natural landscapes and allows tourists to explore. Some tourist attractions like the Kwahu Mountains, Butuase Fall, and Nkofieho Caves.

“I’m also going there to take some rest from hard days of work and explore the place”. he added.

For many, traveling back home brings excitement and the thrill that draws people to Kwahu every Easter season with its exceptional activities, lively festivals, and serene atmosphere.
