The Deputy Upper West Regional Minister, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku has handed over site for work on the Fian-Kojokperi-Welembelle road to begin.

He said the completion of the road would enhance the development of the communities along the road in the areas of health, education and agriculture. The Deputy Minister called for cooperation among the communities and the contractor to ensure the project is finished on time.

The Government of Ghana in the 2020 budget statement declared this year as the ‘Year of Roads’. This brought forth the ‘Critical Roads’ agenda. In the Upper West Region, one of the ‘Critical Roads’ to be constructed is the Fian-Kojokperi-Welembelle.

The 56.15 kilometre stretch of road is expected to be completed in 36 months by contractors P and W Ghanem at an estimated cost of ¢167 million. The completion of the road project would see the ‘bituminous sealing’ of roads from Fian through Wogu to Issa; the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District Capital.

It would continue from Issa to Kojokperi through Wahabu to Welembelle in the Sissala East Municipality. Fifty-two kilometres of the entire project are trunk roads while the remaining are 4.15 Issa town roads.

Drains would be constructed in the major towns along the stretch with all other roads safety signage and markings fitted on the road.

A teacher who doubles as a farmer, Tamin Dambile says his daily hassle to commute from one community to another to teach would be over after the completion of the road.

The Acting Upper West Regional Manager of the Ghana Highways Authority, Thomas Kofi Oppong-Baah charged the contractor to ensure value for money in the construction of the road. Mr Oppong Baah encouraged residents to channel their concerns through the Ghana Highways Authority and not directly to the contractors.
