The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor has constituted a five-member committee to look into the recent impasse between the La Traditional Council and the Ghana Armed forces over a parcel of land around the military cemetery which the La Traditional Council is laying claim to.
The committee is to come up with a set of measures and options to be considered by Government for adoption to bring finality to the age-old impasse and ensure peaceful co-existence between the Ghana Armed Forces and the people of La.
The setting up of the committee follows a petition to the Minister by the La Traditional Council, on recent development regarding the ownership and use of the said parcel of land. The meeting was attended by the Military High Command and the La Traditional Council, officials of the Ministry and the Lands commission.
The Minister tasked the Committee to be guided by the facts and the rule of law pertaining to the issue. The Committee is Chaired Benito Owusu-Bio, MP for Atwima Nwabiagya North and Deputy Minister Designate for the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
The Ghana Armed Forces is represented by Brig. Gen. Benjamin Amoah-Boakye. Other members of the committee are Lawrence Sackitey representing the La Traditional Council, Mabel Yemidi of the Lands Commission and James Dadson representing the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
The Committee has up to 7th May 2021 to submit its report.
