The Chiefs and people of Ziako, Teesnatenga, Bua’arin and Kpaana’atenga in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region are appealing to Government for the provision of basic social amenities.

These include motorable roads and electricity power connection.

The residents who made the appeal at a news conference organized by leadership of the communities also want the only basic school in the area to be put under the Ghana National School Feeding Programme.

The three predominantly farming communities in the Binduri District have a population of over 3, 000.

The communities are yet to be connected to the national grid. All the major roads linking market centers and health facilities in the area are in a deplorable state.

The communities in the area are always cut-off from each other and for that matter the district capital because all the culverts and bridges on the stream in the area have been washed away by floods.

At a news conference organized by opinion leaders in the area to express their displeasure and also seize the opportunity to appeal to government to come to their aid, Rev. Elisha Osman, said they have been neglected by successive governments over the years.

The only CHPs Compound serving the people in the area is yet to be connected to the national grid.

Speaking to GBC’s Radio Ghana, a community Nurse at the facility, Faustina Kumi, said they have over the years not been able to meet their target because of the lack of electricity and poor road network.

A teacher at the Noryine JHS, Moses Alale, said they have no option than to close school whenever it threatens to rain because the bridges and culverts on the roads have become death traps.

It was revealed that the Noryine Primary School which had over 700 pupils has reduced to 61 because the school is yet to be put under the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

Authorities say, the pupils have decided to join the schools in the area that are under the Ghana School Feeding Programme.
