A Supreme Court Judge, Samuel Maafo Sau says no accused person or persons are required to pay money before they are granted bail.

Speaking at the inauguration of a court complex built by the Ga Central Municipal Assembly at Sowutwum in Accra, he said court users must insist on taking a receipt for money paid for any transaction.

To ensure that the people of the Ga Central Municipality have access to justice without travelling long distances to Weija and Amasaman, the Assembly started the construction of a court complex at Sowutwum in 2015.

With funds from the Assembly, it has completed the building which includes a courtroom, Magistrate’s Chamber and male and female cells within five years.

Inaugurating the Court Complex, a Supreme Court Judge, Samuel Maafo Sau said the Judiciary Service has embarked on reforms to ensure that Ghanaians have justice in conducive environments. This, he said, has resulted in some courts being closed down.

He, therefore, commended the Ga Central Municipal Assembly for the construction of the complex.

Cautioning Judicial Officials on their activities at the Courts, Justice Maafo Sau said when money is paid in court for a beneficiary, no official has the right to keep the money for any purpose. The money must be paid to the beneficiary immediately.

He said anybody who has grievances about any court official should report at the complaints unit at the head office of the Judicial Service.

A representative from the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry, Jonathan Aboagye urged all Ghanaians to work towards a peaceful election this year.

He asked the people to resort to court rather than taking the law into their own hands when the need be.

The Ga Central Municipal Chief Executive, Dr Emmanuel Lamptey commended all those who contributed in diverse ways to complete the court complex.
