“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of some eight individuals who were unlawfully tortured, arrested and kidnapped to undisclosed locations. We would also like to add that if we don’t see them by the close of day, all workers of government institutions in Garu and Tempani would lay down our tools in protest from today, Wednesday 1st November 2023.”

This is the first demand from the Garu and Tempani Youth in the Upper East Region in the aftermath of the invasion and brutalities on the citizens on Sunday dawn.

In a press briefing held in Garu, the youth is “demanding a full scale investigation into circumstances that led to the ‘barbaric’ and ‘unprofessional’ conduct of the military that resulted in various degrees of injury visited on innocent and unarmed civilians who were still in bed.”

According to the statement read by Mr. Emmanuel Issaka, “the atrocious acts constitute an abuse of power and a violation of the fundamental human rights of the citizens of Garu and Tempani.”

When GBC News visited the Garu Township on Monday, October, 30, 2023, calm had returned and people were going about with their normal business. However, the youth say they are demanding for the immediate release of their eight colleagues who were taken to unknown places.
