The State Broadcaster the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC has been commended for focusing on and devoting its airtime to educating and sensitising the public on the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on Ghana’s development.
Executive Director of NORSAAC, a Northern based Women and Youth NGO, Alhassan Mohammed Awal gave the commendation in an interview with GBC’s Rebecca Ekpe, and also spoke of its education drive on Covid-19.
Mr. Awal explained that NORSAAC has decided to up-scale its coronavirus education strategy there to behavioral change campaigns, because some people up North are oblivious Coronavirus is a deadly disease.
”When you interact with the people they tell you yes we know that we need to wash our hands, and all but, when you probe further on the disease, they tell you they do not believe it exists, and this is a worry, especially with the news of community infections,” Mr. Awal lamented.
The Women and Youth NGO, NORSAAC, has ramped up support for the government’s education drive to curtailing Covid-19 in the Northern Ghana. Mr. Awal said it is important to intensify the education in order to avoid community infections. He said NORSAAC personnel have worked with the communities using peer educators and the already existing networks within the community.
NORSAAC’s Executive Director, Alhassan Mohammed Awal commended the Health Authorities, all others involved in the fight to combat the coronavirus in Ghana, saying ”we need to change the strategy to ensure that we are affecting the behavioral change that is needed to remove the virus, more especially in Northern Ghana, where some people believe Covid-19 is a hoax”.
