Management of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s Volta Regional FM Station, Volta Star Radio, has presented an amount of ₵4,800 to the family of Rafael Atta to support his medical bills at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
13-year-old Rafael Atta is receiving treatment at the hospital for severe gun shots injury to his shoulder and spinal cord.
Rafael who hails from Awate in the North Dayi District of the Volta Region was shot in the early hours of 11th August this year by an assailant in the nearby community of Bume when he, in the company of his three friends, went picking snails in a bush.
The assailant was subsequently arrested and remanded in prison by the court pending investigation.
Touched by the plight of Rafael, management of Volta Star Radio launched an appeal for funds to help defray his medical bills.
Presenting the money to the family, the Volta Regional Director of GBC, John Gadawusu, said the gesture forms management’s resolve to help the vulnerable in the Volta Region. He thanked listeners of the station for their kindness whenever they were called upon to raise funds to support a course.
The uncle of Rafael Atta expressed gratitude on behalf of his family to management of GBC-Volta Star Radio and listeners for their generosity.
The victim, Rafael, is set to undergo a surgical operation to remove fragments of bullets from his shoulder and spinal cord.
